Dr. Sanobar Haider Dr. Sanobar Haider (Kidwai) is an Associate Professor of History with over two decades of experience in higher education, teaching, academic administration, and research, currently serving at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Government P.G. College, Lucknow (University of Lucknow), a position she was appointed to by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission after topping its merit list in 2011. She holds an interdisciplinary academic background comprising a Ph.D. and M.A. in History, an LL.B. (Gold Medalist), a B.Ed., and UGC-NET qualification, all cleared on her first attempt. Over her career she has authored 9 books, published more than 40 peer-reviewed research papers, and contributed 15 chapters to edited volumes, alongside numerous magazine articles spanning history, culture, law, heritage conservation, and public health. She is a sought-after keynote speaker and invited lecturer at institutions such as Amity University, BBAU, and La Martiniere College,IGNOU and serves on national-level bodies including the National Archives Grants Committee under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, as well as the Indian History Congress and U.P. History Congress. Her honors include the Women Achievements Award, the Nishan-e-Hazrat Zainab Award, the Shan-e-Awadh Award, and a Certificate of Appreciation for her work on the NIC/Lucknow Gazetteer. Beyond academia, she is an active social contributor to women's welfare, rural development, environmental stewardship, and heritage conservation initiatives, and currently supervises four doctoral scholars in History at the University of Lucknow while serving as a member of the Board of Studies at Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur.


Dr. Sapna Jaiswal is Assistant Professor in AIH department. She has done post graduation and doctoral degree from DDU Gorakhpur University with specialization in Numismatics, Art and architect and epigraphy. She has done workshop in Numismatic Studies from IIR Nasik and Conservation of Manuscripts in Parshwanath Vidyapeeth Varanasi. She is teaching for about 13 years in different colleges. She has published several papers in UGC Listed Journals and edited books. She had participated in several national and international seminars.


Shri Jitendra Kumar Dubey a current faculty member at our institution, brings a wealth of experience with a dedicated service spanning over 5 years. He is an Ex-serviceman who has put up 20 yrs glorious service in INDIAN AIR FORCE (1997- 2017). His higher education UG, PG were pursued through IGNOU New Delhi in 2003 & 2011 respectively. He successfully cracked the National Eligibility Test (NET) in 2012. Area of specialization - Ancient political history, India's freedom struggle & world history.He also participated & conducted in several seminars & workshops.

Department of Ancient Indian History (AIH)

The Department of Ancient History was established in 1997, along with the founding of the college, with an initial batch of about 50 students. The department offers both Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programmes, with the PG programme having commenced in 2011.

Departmental Activities:
Every academic session, the department organizes the History Parishad, a flagship event featuring competitions in speech delivery, poster-making, slogan writing, and general knowledge. These activities contribute to the all-round personality development of students, with enthusiastic participation from both UG and PG students, many of whom go on to win accolades. Extension lectures and other academic activities are also organised by the Department throughout the session.

Academic Excellence:
The Department of Ancient Indian History takes pride in the outstanding achievement of its former Postgraduate student, Gulshan Jahan, who won all five gold medals awarded within the department, an unprecedented feat that stands as a benchmark in the history of the department, college, and university:

  2. Smt. Urmila Shukla Memorial Gold Medal,
  3. Rai Bahadur Prayag Dayal Memorial Gold Medal,
  4. Pt. Kishan Narain Mantoo, Pandit Maharaj Kishan Handoo Gold Medal,
  5. Trilokinath Gurtu Mrmorial Gold Medal.

By securing these gold medals on offer, she achieved a record that is an inspiration for future students, and the department remains proud of this remarkable accomplishment.

Study Tours:
The department regularly organizes educational study tours to enhance students' understanding of history and heritage. In September 2017, students of B.A. and M.A. visited the Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Rumi Darwaza, and Clock Tower ,iconic landmarks that form an integral part of Lucknow's rich cultural heritage.

Co-curricular Achievements:
Students of the Department of Ancient History actively participate in various co-curricular activities across the college, excelling not only academically but also in cultural and creative pursuits:

  • Anchal Tiwari has delivered commendable performances in college theatrical productions.
  • In the 2019 B.A. First Year Welcome Party, Vandana Singh was crowned Miss Fresher.
  • In the B.A. Third Year Farewell Party, Ruchita Singh Bhadauria secured first place and Prakriti Mishra secured second place.
  • Ruchita Singh Bhadauria and Prakriti Mishra also won first and second prizes respectively in the flower decoration competition held during UNMESH 2017.
  • The department also hosts a Fresher Party each year to welcome new entrants to the Postgraduate programme, fostering a warm and inclusive academic environment.

These accomplishments reflect the confidence and well-rounded personalities of the department's students, qualities that will serve them well in their future endeavours.
