It is true that in the Indian contexts education is not an abstract term; it conveys the cultural, economic, social, philosophical, scientific and spiritual advancement. Aadiguru Shankaracharya believes that education is the realization of the self; Dayanand Saraswati opines that education is a means of character formation and righteous living; Shri Aurobindo suggests that education means helping the growing soul to draw out that is in itself. As a teacher and administrator of a higher education institution I feel that the function of education is to teach one to think intensively and critically; and the true goal of education is to bring intelligence and character simultaneously into personality of the learners.
